Naming Our Cat (and a Big List of Ideas for Yours)
Just before covid, we adopted a tiny black kitten who quickly made herself at home—mostly under the couch. For weeks, the only thing we could see in the darkness were her bright eyes peeking out at us. We almost named her Shadow, because honestly, she blended right in with the dark wood floors and disappeared into every corner of the house.
She’s grown a lot since then and has become much bolder, but even now, if she’s stretched out on the floor at night, you have to watch your step or you’ll miss her completely.
In the end, though, we didn’t go with Shadow. Her name is Kit-Cat—yes, just like the chocolate bar—and Kit for short. It suits her in a way that makes us smile every single time we say it.
Getting to that “perfect fit” wasn’t easy though. We went through lists, brainstormed as a family, and tried out a few names out loud before one finally stuck. And that’s the fun (and challenge!) of naming a pet—finding something that matches both their personality and your family’s style.
